The Air Jordan IV shoe was first released in 1989. The Jordan IV was designed by Tinker Hatfield, the same man who designed the I II and III and would go on to oversee the design of Jordans’ for a whopping 15 models. Spike Lee, the director/actor who helped in the ad campaign for the Air Jordan III, created the famous Can/Can’t TV commerical. He also gave them promotion in his movie Do The Right Thing, the same movie that helped skyrocked the career of old skool rap group Public Enemy with their song “Fight the Power”.
Although some claimed it was not as revolutionary as the first three Air Jordans, it became the first Jordan shoe to really take the worldwide market by storm. Its effective cushioning sole and astonishing design made it to an international bestseller as a basketball shoe in the 90’s. Today the Jordan IV is highly collectible, with some colourways selling on internet auction sites for well over US$500.
